The world is brimming with posers. People who want to be viewed in a certain way.
They put volcanic size pressure on themselves that can be exhausting to the marrow.
Beautiful wrapping paper is all good and well, but it’s what’s inside that counts. There might be judgement instead of the kindness we wish to portray, or we are hiding some other bits that we don’t want others to see, basically selling a purported vision instead of our real selves. Sadly, this may be because somehow, we don’t think our real selves are worthy or that we shouldn’t have any flaws.
We might want and feel the world wants perfection. Silly that because it doesn’t exist and no-one is just that perfect. Guaranteed, Mother Teresa had flaws.
We think we fool the world.
We become transparent over time as others eventually tend to see through us.
The torn wrapping blows away exposing the real person, bringing emotional pangs of disenchantment all round.
Loss of affection, regard or respect may follow.
Because we don’t want that, ironically, one of the healthiest things you can do for your image is to let go of what you want the world out there to see.
Focus on your inner world and ask why you believe and act the way you do. If there something you wouldn’t like the world to see, ask why it’s there. What thought processes or beliefs do you have to change for it to be the way you would prefer. Meanwhile you own it as a work in progress.
Doing this frees us to sustainably show up as ourselves.
This is the only way to be well-regarded for who we actually are, by the people who will like our particular flavour. For sure, not everyone will, but the ones who do will be all in for your wonderful self without any need for tedious pretenses.
The wrapping you come in doesn’t count nearly as much as giving respect does, and showing up respectfully as yourself.
The path is so much easier when we are aware of ourselves as real people with actual values and a blueprint of how we might bounce of others. It takes figuring out behaviours that are aligned with who we are deep down and focusing on this before we try to show up as someone we are not.
Spend time with yourself and ask yourself what you truly value and hold dear. What is important to you and why.
Can you let others be with what is important to them without trying to bash your ideas onto them because you are too busy with your own stuff.
Caveat: Does this mean you just do as you please and dress any old way and everyone must just accept you? See post.
